Just as a close reach in sailing positions a vessel 60° off the wind, balancing speed and control, this Single-Origin Ethiopian coffee strikes the perfect harmony between brightness, fruitiness, and depth. Sourced from the legendary Idido municipality in Yirgacheffe, this coffee comes from the Gedeo Zone, an area world-renowned for producing some of the most complex and expressive Arabica coffees.
A Coffee Worth Navigating For
Grown at an impressive 2,200-2,400 MASL, this high-elevation coffee thrives in nutrient-rich Vertisol soil, producing an exceptionally clean and vibrant cup. Cultivated by Alamayehu Gosaye and other dedicated farmers in the Idido community, this coffee is a product of generations of expertise and dedication to quality.
Roasted to a delicate Medium-Light level, just at first crack, Close Reach Ethiopia Idido Yirgacheffe is crafted to highlight the natural beauty of its terroir. The cup bursts with lively notes of lemon, blueberry, and strawberry, balanced by floral undertones, creamy texture, and hints of chocolate.
The Art of Natural Processing
This lot is processed at a station managed by Mesele Haile, where hundreds of farmers from the Idido community contribute their ripest cherries. The beans undergo a Full Natural process, dried on raised beds, allowing them to develop their signature sweetness and fruit-forward complexity. After hand-selection, the cherries are floated for density before being meticulously dried—protected from humidity at night and shielded from intense midday sun to ensure an even and consistent drying process.
A Legendary Coffee Terroir
Idido is at the heart of the Yirgacheffe district, one of the eight woredas that make up Ethiopia’s famed Gedeo Zone. The name “Yirgacheffe” itself has become synonymous with some of the world’s most sought-after coffees. This highland region is a benchmark for complexity in Arabica coffee, producing flavors that range from jasmine-like floral elegance in washed coffees to punchy, fruit-forward sweetness in natural-processed lots—like this one.
